The current emperor of the country is Emperor Akihito. The highest point in Japan is Mount Fuji, a dormant volcano. Japan has a total of about 20 active volcanoes. Japan can be very humid throughout the year. Winters are cold, summers are hot, and spring/fall are beautiful. Air and water pollution are growing concerns for the country. FoodJapan is especially known for sushi, udon, and rice. They make amazing tempura and delectable sweets like Mochi. Soba is a popular noodle dish. Teppanyaki is a serving style in which the chef cooks on a large iron griddle (teppan) in front of you. Miso soup is one of my favourites. It’s made by dissolving miso paste in fish stock (dashi) and then adding chunks of tofu, wakame seaweed, and sometimes green onion. ClothingKimonos are a very traditional, common, formal clothing piece among women. Nowadays, the Japanese usually wear what Canadians or Americans would wear. Hakama pants, Kimonos, and Happis, are still commonly worn around the country. LanguageThe official language is Japanese, but the Japanese use a combination of three writing systems: Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana.
